With a passion for country life and British traditions, Spent Shells was a natural progression at the end of 2018. So, the no frills story, well I was the farmer’s wife living in the wilderness of Northumberland on an Eco farm. I’m a mother of two and, once they gained the ability to walk talk and feed themselves, I started looking for my long-lost identity! I was previously teaching in a small school alongside farming and fiercely independent. I come from an artistic family but a business minded father. So when, whilst setting up yet another crafty children’s activity of feathers and other random paraphernalia I found in the mess box, I came up with the idea of the feather baubles and I went with it! The response was overwhelming! Add the dash of ocd into a ‘crafty’ girl and you get a business!
In 2019 we were recognised by the Rural Business awards as ‘Best Rural Start up’, of which we are extremely proud. We’ve had editorials in living magazine, including a front cover and participated in ‘Countryfile Live’ in the summer 2019.
We now attend the biggest shows and fairs in the country, and currently have stock in four shops in the UK. The product list has grown immensely over the last two years, with commissions still a firm favourite. We also cater for events such as the races, balls and weddings providing a range of buttonholes, cufflinks, shoes and fascinators. If you have any special requests or questions please don’t hesitate to drop us an email, we love a challenge!
